Conclusion
In my opinion these organizing efforts are the seeds for a future of collaboration between the legal economy and the illegal sub-economy of day labor infrastructure. The "invisibility" of day laborers as an existing and growing economy is becoming visible also through the media. The numerous articles found in major newspapers in LA for the past few years are another proof of the growing power and the voice of the day labor network and their lobby.
Through researching the issues of the day labor market I found that it is an urgent problem in LA and most of the big cities all over the world. Due to the large undocumented population of immigrants in LA county, various forms of solutions have emerged. On the one hand, the enforcement of ordinances prohibit day laborers from soliciting work in public space, while on the other hand non-profit organizations such as CHIRLA, IDEPSCA and Day Labor Union are being supported by the city of LA. It seems that the decision of the city to support the organizations in resolving the day laborer problem is mature and beneficial to all sides. This is a good representation of the complexity of the city’s policy, where unofficial toleration is an official policy .
